Concurrent Session #3
As AI tools increasingly support academic advising, student affairs professionals must address a key challenge: How can AI enhance, rather than replace, developmental advising relationships? This session applies Baxter Magolda's Self-Authorship Framework to explore how AI tools like chatbots and degree planners can foster students' meaning-making, self-definition, and autonomy. Through a developmental lens, we will discuss how AI can empower students to construct knowledge, clarify identity, and form meaningful relationships. Participants will gain strategies for collaborating with campus technology teams to ensure AI systems align with developmental theory and support student growth in advising.
