Details
Ophelia Ivy Mensah
Concurrent Session #1
This session explores inequities in health insurance policies affecting international students in U.S. higher education using Bowling Green State University as a case study. Drawing on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, the Deficit Thinking Framework, and George Mwangi & Yao's Equity-Driven Internationalization Lens, the presentation highlights how institutional policies can unintentionally limit access to healthcare and well-being. Participants will engage in reflection and discussion to identify equity gaps within their institutions. The session concludes with actionable takeaway strategies to promote affordable, inclusive, and culturally responsive health insurance practices that support student success and belonging.
