Meeting Their Needs: Identifying Your Role in Supporting and Supervising Your Unique Team
Presented by: Dana Pursley, Director, Alford Community Leadership & Involvement Center, Denison University.
We have all heard the phrase “people don’t leave bad jobs…they leave bad bosses.” Being a supervisor (and a supervisee) is HARD! And supervisory dynamics can impede us from reaching our goals. Meeting your teams’ needs and providing individualized feedback through direct communication, delegating, and empowerment can move your organization closer to its vision. This session will discuss how intentional resources (e.g., automated coaching, institute-specific programs), assessments (e.g., Gallup Q12), and honest self-reflection can increase your supervisory effectiveness. Ideally, attendees are professionals with current staff supervision responsibilities. However, those aspiring to be in supervisory roles or those currently supervising student employees may also benefit from this session.
