Work/life balance has been a hot topic in higher education for several years. In an attempt to instill confidence and courage in today’s hectic world, Mel Robbins wrote a book called The 5 Second Rule. In this book, Mel (she, her, hers pronouns) identifies 31 unique ways to maintain confidence, courage, and balance to be successful and productive in both work and personal life. Her unique, but simple technique to change personal behavior has allowed her to become a top presenter internationally in all fields and industries.
In her book, Mel identifies daily tips to manage and work through difficult times in a simplistic way that anyone can pick up this book and read it. She also supplements the book with a 31 day digital mentorship that provides daily messages for encouragement and behavior changes towards success.
This book is great for the person who procrastinates, but still produces. Mel also provides motivation to improve confidence, increase productivity, taking greater control to increase money, pursue your dreams, and discover “greatness” in work and personal life.
What makes this book a fun and quick read are all the stories shared by individuals who took the 5 second challenge. As Mel states, “anyone who can count to five can change their life”. Professional and personal stories about simple acts using the 5 second rule provide encouraging examples to improving your life in a short period of time.
As a busy professional that doesn’t always have time to read for fun, this book was so easy to pick up and finish within a few hours. But what makes the book so impactful are the 31 day video sessions that Mel provides online mentorship and inspiration to be confident and positive in everything you do.
If you are someone who wants to make improvements in your life (which should be all of us), consider checking out Mel Robbins’ The 5 Second Rule.
